Scrumptious: A Friends to Lovers Romantic Comedy (Camos and Cupcakes Book 3) Page 29

He smiles and grabs a small jeweler’s box off the bedside table. “I’m hoping our engagement.”

He opens the little box, then pulls out the ring. It’s white gold with one solitaire diamond.

“Savannah, you are my light, the only home I will ever need. Please, be my bride.”

I’m still staring at the ring when my vision blurs.

“Oh, don’t cry, baby. Just say yes.”

I smile at him, tears streaming down my face. “Yes.”

He takes my hand and slips the ring on my finger, then pulls me into his arms. He kisses me and starts easing me back in the bed, but I stop him.

“Listen, I love you. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”

  “But?”

“There is coffee and food over there. Give me some caffeine and food and then I will rock your world.”

He laughs. “Anything for you.” He grabs the tray, setting it on the mattress and pours the coffee. And there, in one of my favorite cities in the world, I share breakfast with the man who captured my heart and protects my soul.

  FRITZ

  Russo Winery, Texas

  Two Months Later

I lead Savannah to the dance floor for our first dance. EJ and Allison wanted to kill Savannah when she insisted on a short engagement. She wanted to have enough time to have a honeymoon before she had to make it back to work for the next season.

I look at her as we continue on to the center of the dance floor. She’s a vision, wrapped in ivory satin. Her dress clings to her generous curves. She piled her hair up in one of those intricate styles that looks like it defies gravity. And there is a glow about her, a happiness that resonates in my soul.

As I draw her into my arms, I see our family and friends gathered around the dance floor. Savannah is still not in contact with the people who raised her, but Austin walked her down the aisle. The tough guy almost cried when she asked him to do it, and I think I saw the sheen of tears in his eyes as he kissed her cheek before handing her over to me. Her other “brothers” all served as ushers in the wedding.

We wait for our favorite tango music to start up, and she smiles at me with a look I can’t discern.

  “What?”

She leans closer. “Promise not to freak out?”

Okay, so is there any time anyone doesn’t freak out when they are told not to freak out?

“Promise.” Which is a lie because I’m already freaking.

She laughs. “You’re the worst liar.”

The first strains of music fill the room, but I stand, still waiting.

“Remember the issue of my parents’ wedding?”

I frown thinking back to what we know, what we have pieced together thanks to her aunt and uncles. Then it hits me. Marilyn was pregnant with Savannah when she and Tito married.

  “Are you sure?”

She nods. “Just about two months,” she says with a smile. She got pregnant in San Francisco.

Joy fills me and I drop her hands so that I can cup her face. I don’t hesitate, but I press my mouth against hers. The music slowly dies as I kiss her. I pull back and press my forehead against hers.

“You make me so fucking happy.”

The smile she gives me this time is stunning, even if tears are filling her eyes.

  “Same for me, pretty boy.”

“Uh…not sure what’s going on, but do you think you two can dance so the rest of us can get on the floor?” Avery asks. We laugh when we look toward the band. She has commandeered the mic and is glaring at us. She waves her hand to indicate we should get started.

“Of course,” I call out. Then I step back, raise my hands. “My love?”

She steps into my arms, just like that first time, years earlier, and nothing has changed. She fits in my arms, in my life, and in my heart.

  What’s Up Next???

As the Scrumptious blurb says, this was our last Camos and Cupcakes book, but it will not be the last in the world. So many new stories are coming and first up Syd and her boss Grady get all tangled up in the January release of Hate to Love You.
